Are you properly managing your ICS cyber risks?

Paul Haughey & Cinthia Diaz

Until recently, industrial control networks (ICS) were separated networks disconnected from the business networks and the Internet. This approach known as “Air Gap” was a common security measure used by many organizations to protect their ICS assets from cyber-attacks. However, trends like IIoT and Industry 4.0 are driving organizations to improve their connectivity between the physical process world and the Internet. This connectivity exposes the previously isolated operational environment to cyber-threats. ICS networks pose a unique challenge to security professionals, primarily because they are unlike traditional IT networks.

In this session we will analyze real-life attacks to ICS networks to describe ICS cyber risks faced by organizations and their impact on operations.  We will also discuss a holistic approach that can be used to properly manage ICS cyber risks.  The presentation will include a brief description of ICS networks and the difference between IT and ICS risk managing approach.
