Konstantin Beznosov will be arranging the "best of" his computer security course student presentations. Topics will include a simple way to break into accounts of the pay-by-phone parking system used in Vancouver, vulnerabilities in the update mechanisms for Sophos AV, and an attack on Windows Live messenger that allows impersonation of IM users.

New Website Features

We're pleased to announce the website has undergone a modest makeover! Nothing drastic, but we hope the small changes will improve your experience.

Here's what we've done:

  • The navigation is much simplified (and is now located below the header)
  • The sidebar contains the next upcoming SIG meeting
  • The site now has RSS feeds
  • Comments are now enabled

April 2009 meeting

Dale Jackaman will be presenting based on his experience with, and research into, the new provincial requirements for forensic investigators to have a private investigator's licence.

Representatives from our local higher education facilities, as well as other interested parties, will be presenting a panel (and maybe facilitating discussion) on the legality, ethicality, and advisability of conducting security testing on real systems, particularly in regard to security training and education.
